WASHINGTON — Severe storms are east of I 81 in the Shenandoah Valley and moving east. These storms have a history of producing hail and damaging winds.

After several warnings for parts of Virginia, reports of trees down reports of strong winds started coming in. Winds gusted to 66 mph at Dulles. Dulles also recorded 2.18″ of rain, good enough for a daily rainfall record.



There were several reports of trees down and roads closed after the storm.

There is a flood warning in effect for the western portion of Fairfax County and Loudoun County until 6:45 p.m.

Eastern Fairfax County, including the city of Fairfax, has a flood warning until 7:30 p.m. Officials said some roads are already closed due to localized flooding.

Conditions remain humid with some storms the rest of the week. The weekend becomes hotter with fewer storms.

Some strong to severe storms are possible until midnight. We have the chance of some showers and storms again Friday.

We stay very warm and humid Friday. We turn hot and humid over the weekend. The heat index Saturday and Sunday will be between 100 and 107.

A front stalls just south of us Friday and over the weekend. This leaves us with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies and a few showers and storms. Best chances for storms Thursday look to be west of D.C.. Highs will top out in the mid 80s Thursday and near 90 Friday.

Friday: Returning partly sunny, very warm and humid with showers and storms, a few heavy. Highs: 85 – 90. Winds: SE 5 – 10.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, hot and humid with isolated p.m. showers and storms, some heavy. Highs: 88 – 93. Winds: ESE 5 – 10.
