A burglary suspect sporting a very seasonal disguise made waves on Facebook on Sunday when the Fort Collins police set a video of her exploits to the tune of the Christmas classic, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

The unidentified woman broke into a business in the 300 block of Hickory Street in Fort Collins early Tuesday and stole several undisclosed items, according to a Facebook post made by the department Sunday morning. In an apparent attempt to conceal her identity, the woman wore a mascot-grade, plush reindeer head during the break-in.

The incident was captured on a security camera. In the footage, the suspect can be seen rummaging through what appears to a break room area, fumbling with a flashlight and struggling to open a tote bag. At one point, the reindeer head falls off and the suspect’s face is captured on camera.

Fort Collins police set the footage to an instrumental version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” By Sunday evening, the video had been viewed more than 3,500 times.

With a red nose, it is likely the mascot headgear was meant to depict the reindeer Rudolph, leader of Santa’s sleigh team and the most famous reindeer of all. The department also posted parody lyrics to the song, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” along with the video.

The lyrics were shared along the video post.

“Oh how the camera caught her, As she committed burglary,” the lyrics read in part. “Rudolph the Red Nosed Criminal, We need your help with her I.D.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime or the suspect to call an officer with Fort Collins police at 970-221-6555 or to call Larimer County Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
