STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With temperatures approaching 100 degrees, an extreme heat advisory has been issued for Staten Island on Sunday.

The heat advisory is from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The combination of heat and humidity is expected to feel like it is 102 degrees.

The NWS also warns residents that intense heat can cause illness, and in extreme cases, death, among at-risk populations who can’t stay cool.

In addition to the heat advisory, there is a hazardous weather advisory issued for Sunday, where damaging winds and hail are expected.

The advisory extends from Sunday through Friday, with the arrival of Hurricane Isaias.

While the NWS states it is too early to provide details, there are potential impacts during Monday night through Wednesday evening, filled with heavy rainfall and gusty winds, and coastal flooding.
