ATLANTA – It was a calm day across the metro, but it has been a different story across the north Georgia mountains. Showers will continue across that area throughout the night Friday and into Saturday morning.

But this weekend, more parts of the metro could see a chance for strong storms. This will be the sixth-straight weekend that we’ll have rain.

We’re using the most advanced weather technology to show you when the rain will move into your area, on Channel 2 Action News Saturday AM, starting at 6 a.m.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz said the chance for rain and storms goes up Saturday and Sunday.

A warm front will move through the area and push those showers north throughout the day Saturday, bringing isolated showers to extreme north Georgia but leaving most of metro Atlanta dry throughout the day.

A cold front will move in Sunday morning. That front will produce strong storms across state west of Georgia, but by the time it reaches Georgia, the severe threat will have diminished.

“As for Sunday morning, we’ll still have that opportunity for an isolated thunderstorm, that could be on the strong side for points to the south,” said Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls

Temperatures will remain warm throughout the weekend, with highs in the high 60s to low 70s.

Those temperatures will stick around into the new week, as well.
